November 16 Head north but after two hours bus lost power. Replaced fuel filters which cured problem. Stopped at Delijan for breakfast. Again, no open hostility toward us. Drove rest of day via outskirts of Tehran to reach Takestan where we found a campsite with little wooden huts to sleep in. Also a kitchen and hot showers.
November 17 Drove to Zanjan and onto Midrieh for breakfast stop. Continued via Tabriz to Marand and onto Maku. The field which we had used on the way out was waterlogged so we set up camp on the side of the road.
November 18 Discovered universal joint on prop shaft was broken so Tim replaced it while some of us cleaned the bus. On road by 11.15 and drove to Turkish border at Bazargan. Passed through border in under an hour and drove to Igdir for lunch stop. Drove to Tercan via Erzican where we stayed in two small hotels as it was too cold to camp.
November 19 Drove on to Zara where we stopped for lunch. Then on to Yozgat where we stopped for an evening meal. Continued driving through night to keep up with schedule.
November 20 Continued driving through the night, past Ankarra and on until 7.15 when we stopped for breakfast at a roadside restaurant about a hundred miles east of Istanbul. Reached Istanbul at lunchtime. Stayed in town during the afternoon then went to the Londra Campsite for the night. |
